For Kamal, this has proved to be no exception. He lives with his wife Nasrin Begum and their three children in one of the poorest and most isolated parts of Bangladesh. Being so far from civilisation means it’s tough to break out from the cycle of poverty.
Kamal is too poor to be able to afford a home of his own and relies on the kindness of his brother to house him and his family. Kamal earns a meagre income by rearing ducks, which he keeps for their eggs.
"I don’t know enough about rearing and caring for my ducks so I make little income," says Kamal.
Lacking knowledge, skills and equipment it is difficult for Kamal to take the next step on his journey. By making the right improvements to his business, Kamal could earn enough to build his own house, afford proper healthcare and send his children to school.

Traidcraft offers this guiding light of hope through local partner organisations. For people living in remote areas, access to the right services is critical.
With your support, and our help, people like Kamal can reap the benefits of their own hard work and build a future that will feed, clothe and educate their children.
But without the right business support and information, Kamal will remain trapped by his circumstances and the remoteness of where he lives.
This Christmas, the best gift Kamal can imagine is learning the skills and receiving the training to improve his business.
